Vegetation removal works commence on the eastern side of the Bruce Highway, between Pignata Road, Palmview and the Sippy Downs interchange from Sunday 29 January 2017. Works will begin at Palmview before progressively moving towards Sippy Downs and the Sippy Downs interchange.
Both day and night works will be required to complete these works. Where trees are located in close proximity to the road, works must be completed at night for the safety of workers and road users. The works are expected to be completed over a four to six week period, weather permitting.
Nearby residents can expect audible noise as heavy machinery, including chainsaws, will be in use during these works. Construction crews must use chainsaws to carefully remove trees that are located near underground or overhead services. Temporary lighting towers will also be used to light work areas at night. Grinding and mulching works will be carried out during the day to minimise impact on nearby residents.
The vegetation removal is required to allow space to six-lane the highway and upgrade the Sunshine Motorway interchange. It will also allow for intersection upgrades at the Sippy Downs interchange and for construction of a new southbound on-ramp from the interchange to the Bruce Highway.
Importantly, fauna spotters will monitor the vegetation removal works to ensure wildlife is protected and if required, relocated.
